Meditation and Mindfulness - Sanctuary in the Midst of Daily Life
Valley Zen Circle (VZC) is a small group meeting weekly in the home of one of our Dallas members. The evening begins peacefully with silent meditation in the Soto Zen tradition. Our group members come from various faith and meditation traditions; our discussions highlight Buddhist studies and include topics from other traditions. We seek to be inclusive in our membership and our spiritual practice, harmonizing the one and the many. Beginning in September 2017, we will meet on Wednesday evenings. The Wednesday evening schedule begins with meditation at 5:30pm and continues with a reading together and discussion of our current book. Please call 503.623.8600 for information. See the Schedule of Events here for details. This Fall we will be reading from The Way of Silence (This link should lead to Amazon's page for the book.) The Way of Silence draws heavily on Buddhist teachings to cultivate the practice of "deep" listening: turning away from noise and distraction, embracing quiet and paying attention. The teaching embraces silent presence and dynamic tranquility. Learning to trust, one learns to practice emptying the mind in order that wisdom, insight and understanding may arise.
