Valley Zen Circle
Meditation and Mindfulness - Sanctuary in the Midst of Daily Life
Join our growing zen community for all or part of an evening of peaceful silent meditation in the Soto Zen style. Valley Zen Circle (VZC) is open to the public every week on Thursday evenings in the spacious lower level of Christ’s Church, 412 Clay Street in Monmouth, Oregon. (Use the west entrance from the parking lot.) Wear comfortable clothing; cushions and chairs are provided.
See the Schedule of Events here for details.
This fall we are reading from A Fearless Heart: How the Courage to Be Compassionate Can Transform Our Lives. (This link should lead to Amazon's page for the book.) Looking at compassion can inform our practice but compassion also looks at our relationships to others. A Fearless Heart focuses on the ability to identify suffering, let empathy arise, and then, hopefully, we have the inclination to do something about the suffering with which we are faced in our day-to-day lives. The discussion should be helpful to those wondering about how compassion fits into both Buddhism and our daily lives. Come and join us for this discussion.
For Thursday, 10/01/15, the reading is Part I (Why Compassion Matters), Section 2 (The Key to Self-Acceptance).
