"We're starting a blog to help us share thoughts, continue discussions, and keep our group lively, even if we can't all be in the same place at the same time. AND that this book, The Fearless Heart and its teaching is very worth looking at together. So here goes....
This week, Jill, Lori, and Linda sat for an hour and Alex joined by phone for a discussion afterward. We decided to circle back and start reading The Fearless Heart aloud, just a bit at a time. So we began on page 3 and the first title "Compassion."
The author talked about his early life as a Tibetan refugee in India. It sounded difficult and lonely for a child and he said he sometimes felt like an orphan as the family scattered. An uncle showed the Jinpa great kindness by including the boy in family gatherings and trips. We talked a little about current refugees and the stories we hear or read about them through various media that don't really tell us what their days are like. Jill said she would look on the internet. We described from our own memories a relative, a teacher, or neighbor, agreeing with Jinpa that their kindness and compassion made a real difference in our lives, even though we may not have been around them a great deal as we got older."
